MMAE teamed up with the Charlotte Area Health Education Center (AHEC) to bring Dr. Bruce Perry, a Senior Fellow at the Child Trauma Academy and adjunct professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Northwestern University School of Medicine, to Charlotte. Dr. Perry wrote Born for Love: Why Empathy is Essential – and Endangered.

His presentation explored how empathy, the ability to recognize and share the feelings of others, is a crucial human quality that underlies, love, friendship, parenting and overall health. Dr. Perry also conducted a workshop for educators and health professionals on The Six Core Strengths for Healthy Childhood Development.

In conjunction with the talk, Dawn O’Malley, Psy.D. presented a half day workshop for parents, Raising Happy Children: From Dr. Spock to Dr. Perry.
